7 daily devotionals to kickstart your mornings. đź“–

The older I get, the more I love mornings. As I continue trying to fine-tune my morning rhythms and routines, I know that starting the morning with unplugged quiet-time always sets me up well for the day. One easy way to do that is by reading a daily devotional. They’re short, sweet and usually have prompts or areas for further study.

Here are 7 of my favorite daily devotionals (in no particular order):

  1. Savor: Living Abundantly Where You Are, As You Are by Shauna Niequist - This is a 365-day devotional from one of my favorite authors, Shauna Niequist. With excerpts from some of her other books and beautiful imagery and stories, this is truly more of a devotional than a “study”, so keep that in mind. This book also includes 21 recipes, which is cozy and fun.

  2. New Morning Mercies: A Daily Gospel Devotional by David Paul Tripp - This 365-day devotional is very popular, and rightfully so. It’s amazing. Each daily reading includes questions for personal reflection and application, guidelines for prayer, and a list of relevant biblical passages for further study

  3. My Utmost for His Highest by Oswald Chambers - This year-long devotional will encourage and move you to think more deeply about your relationship with the Lord. The devotions are short, robust and truly are equal parts thought and heart provoking. My family had this devotional growing up and I have one now — it really packs a punch and cuts to the heart of living life in submission to Christ with faith, resilience and dedication.

  4. Catching Whimsy: 365 Days of Possibility by Bob Goff - This devotional is brand new, and is such a cool addition to my collection. I LOVE Bob Goff’s books, and his devotions are just as whimsical, playful and encouraging as his books. Each devotional is inspired by a reading from the Bible, and he tells stories that connect to the scripture or remind us to live each day with purpose. This devotional also has insights and prompts to help you engage even further.

  5. 40 Days to a Joy-Filled Life: Living the 4:8 Principle by Tommy Newberry - This is a 40-day devotional that I traditionally like to work through in January because what better way to start the year than by pursuing joy! Each days material is delivered in bite-size chunks for easy consumption and is broken down into sections with a clear theme each day. It’s scripture based, has areas for writing and answering questions, has a “Make It Stick” area with something to memorize for the day like “My focus creates my feeling” and also has drills and ends with a prayer. It’s so good! It’s equal parts workbook and devo.

  6. 52 Weeks in the Word: A Companion for Reading through the Bible in a Year by Trillia Newbell - Okay, this isn’t as much of a daily devotional, but it is a weekly companion to accompany you for your daily bible reading, and a great companion at that!

  7. Morning and Evening: A devotional with two daily devotions by Charles Spurgeon - I don’t own this one, but it will be the next devotional on my list. I love the idea of starting and ending the day with a devotion, and I have been deeply moved by Charles Spurgeon’s other works.

Do you have any favorite daily devotionals? Please share them below — I am always looking for a new one! And if you’ve read through any of these, let me know which ones you love!

Until next time,
Kaylee
